Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Roger Radio.

What is our platform?
It's an innovative, and very unique training platform for pilots (both trainee and experienced) to learn radiotelephony techniques and procedures with an artificial 'Bot', rather than a real person. With classroom modules that follow The Aircraft Rules, 1937 and Indian Wireless Telegraphy (Commercial Radio Operators Certificates of Proficiency And Licence To Operate Wireless Telegraphy) Rule, 1954, you can become fully prepared for your FRTOL (Flight Radio Telephony Operator's Licence) quickly and easily - and pass first time.
Who is this platform for?
It's for everyone who needs to use a radio whilst flying to communicate with ATC (air traffic control)or AG (air-to-ground) operator. Whether you're a pilot in training, or a more experienced pilot who wants to perfect your radio skills, we will teach you the correct way to communicate with ATC.
Does the course follow the official syllabus?
Yes. our platform is fully compliant with The Aircraft Rules, 1937 and Indian Wireless Telegraphy (Commercial Radio Operators Certificates of Proficiency And Licence To Operate Wireless Telegraphy) Rule, 1954, which includes 6 sections: Aircraft radio equipment General phraseology, references & procedures Departure procedures Arrival & circuit procedures Enroute procedures Emergency, abnormal & lost procedures
Why should I learn this stuff?
If you're intending to use a radio as a pilot, you need a FRTOL (flight radiotelephony operator's licence) by law. It is an offence to use your radio without a valid licence. Our platform enables you to learn the skills to be able to take your FRTOL licence and pass with flying colours.
What's the Interactive Trainer?
The Interactive Training Bot is an artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to simulate Air Traffic Control (ATC) operator, and air-to-ground operators. This innovative tool allows users to customize their learning experience by incorporating their own callsign, departure airfield, and arrival aerodrome, providing an exceptionally realistic training environment. Utilizing advanced Speech Synthesis technology, the system offers a lifelike voice for communication. With customizable elements such as callsigns, runway numbers, and frequencies, the Interactive Training Bot not only enhances interactivity but also adds an element of enjoyment to the learning process.
What procedures can I practice in the Interactive Trainer?
You have the opportunity to practice every essential procedure required for VFR (Visual Flight Rules) flying. This encompasses a wide range of actions, including communication and procedures for arrivals and departures, handling emergency calls, and executing enroute procedures, Traffic Service requests, Flight Information Services, and Control Zone Transit procedures.
Can't I just talk normally on the radio?
Learning the correct procedures is crucial for effectively communicating your intentions with the ground. Adhering to valid communication protocols not only enhances the safety of each flight but also contributes to a more enjoyable experience, allowing you to navigate your aircraft with confidence. According to the Aircraft Act of 1937, individuals operating radio transmitting and receiving equipment in an aircraft must possess an Aircraft Radio Licence (FRTOL).
No more embarrassment, then?
Absolutely. Engaging with an AI "bot" allows you to practice radiotelephony from the convenience of your home, eliminating the potential embarrassment of making mistakes with a live person. The greatest advantage of practicing with an AI Bot is that you can refine your skills without the need to do so while flying, making the entire learning process much safer.
